SIR – I was very surprised to read that babies were still being allowed in the same bed as their mothers in hospital (T&A, September 7).
Nine years ago my daughter gave birth to my grandson by Caesarean section and was then taken to a single room on the ward.
When I visited her afterwards she was fast asleep with my grandson alongside her in the same bed.
This situation could have easily ended in the same tragic circumstances of baby Amber Archer, and I hope lessons have been learned and a ‘no co-sleeping’ policy is in place in every maternity hospital.
My sympathy goes to Amber’s family.
