SIR – At last it appears that we have a Prime Minister with a bit of spine.
David Cameron has promised to double the operational allowances of our front-line troops from £14.51 per day to £29. This pay rise will also be back-dated to May 6.
It is estimated that this will cost the MOD £58 million which will inevitable have to be met by cutbacks throughout the MOD.
The MOD would be wise to start these cutbacks by pruning back the ‘dead wood’, they of the pen-pusher brigade, they of the shiny jackets and shiny trousers, and even shinier seats of said trousers.
