SIR – The headline ‘Worker tells of terror on ship of death’ (T&A, June 4), drew no concern for Mohammed Bhaiyat from me, if that was the intention.

He was on a ship intent on breaking the Israeli blockade, so what did he expect, a welcoming band and bunting?

Then I see the Bishop of Bradford is having his say, not that it is a balanced viewpoint, only one that condemns the Israelis.

He states categorically: “The Palestinians are short of food and supplies”, when this is exactly the opposite of information I have obtained.

The Israelis are not, contrary to the impression given, stopping aid arriving, just that they want to see that it arrives at a certain point where they can be sure that it is only aid and not arms shipments.

The Bishop goes on to say that the blockade should be lifted, and I feel sure that the Israelis would be pleased to do so, if the Bishop can guarantee that aid is the only thing being carried.

So, if the ‘humanitarians’ want to supply to the Palestinians, all they have to do is send it through a designated port, and it will get there. All they are trying to do is stir up trouble under a humanitarian disguise.
