SIR – We hit rock bottom in the Eurovision Song Contest and Andy Murray was knocked out of the French Open.
So what? Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, our two whiz kids, came first and second respectively in the Turkish Grand Prix, and our cricketers scored emphatic victories over Bangladesh in the two Test matches.
What’s more, Bradford’s Matt Wells was part of an historic Great Britain one-two to win gold in the men’s double sculls in Bled, Slovenia.
We can’t win ’em all, but who knows, we might see Fabio Capello waving the flag of St George and singing That Sounds Good To Me, when the final whistle blows at the World Cup.
