SIR – The attack on two Ahmadi Muslim mosques in Lahore by suspected Pakistani Taliban gunmen, killing 70 worshippers, is a real tragedy (T&A, May 29).
As an agnostic, I don’t agree with the religious beliefs of Ahmadi Muslims, but I greatly appreciated the peace campaign launched by Bradford’s Amadiyya Muslim Association in April of this year, under the slogan “Love for all, hatred for none”.
Bradford’s Ahmadi Muslims also host an annual peace conference, so it is very sad they have been targeted by psychopaths intent on killing in the name of political Islam.
In truth, Ahmadi Muslims have been persecuted in Pakistan for many years, and in 1984, General Zia-ul-Haq introduced a law banning Ahmadis from calling themselves Muslims.
Saudi Arabia has banned Ahmadis from visiting Islamic holy sites in Mecca and Medina.
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to all Ahamdi Muslims who lost friends and family in these senseless attacks.
