SIR – Recently, Power2010 ran a full-page ad in the national press, naming six MPs as examples of roadblocks to reform, including Philip Davies MP.

Mr Davies was quick to dismiss our case, citing his opposition to ID cards as evidence that he was not completely adverse to our aims.

For the record, while Mr Davies may be against the ID card itself, he is very supportive of the authoritarian database state that is the real danger behind the scheme.

His opposition to electoral reform, whereby the makeup of Parliament would better reflect the votes received by each party, and vehement defence of an all-appointed House of Lords makes Mr Davies, in my view, an enemy of democracy.

Power2010 is a grassroots campaign, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust. Our priorities were decided by over 100,000 votes, and Mr Davies was nominated by his own residents as one of the targets for our campaign.
