SIR – Would it be possible to clarify how much public money from the Council and Yorkshire Forward has been made available for the temporary urban garden on the Westfield site?

If it is as much as £200,000 of the total £300,000 budget suggested in some reports, then it is an absolute scandal.

Westfield is one of the biggest property development corporations in the world, and has already benefited from the millions of pounds of public infrastructure investment that went into the site during the early development phase. Yet it has no timetable for completion.

The least it could do is pay the full amount for this temporary solution at a time when public finances are going to be under immense pressure.
