SIR – I write in response to Shipley MP Philip Davies’s outburst against Yorkshire Forward for not spending money in Saltaire (T&A, November 9).
Reasonably enough, Yorkshire Forward’s reply is that no-one has ever asked for any money for Saltaire.
This means, astonishingly, that no-one on the Tory-run Council or indeed Mr Davies himself has ever asked for funding for us.
The regeneration of Bradford and its district is the responsibility of the Council, who should be working with agencies like Yorkshire Forward to bring investment into the area. Is Mr Davies telling us he has never had such constructive conversations to invite funding? I do feel he should take responsibility for this failure, which highlights the Tory lack of vision and ambition for our area.
Yes, Saltaire is a great World Heritage Site, of which we are all proud, but it was the previous Labour MP, and my predecessor Chris Leslie, who was instrumental in helping local people gain this status.
What benefits has Mr Davies brought? How long before people in Shipley realise that a Tory Council combined with a Tory MP simply do not add up to positive change for local people and the places they care about?
Susan Hinchcliffe, Prospective Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley, Glenroyd, Shipley
