SIR – Is there a smoking ban or not? It doesn’t seem to apply on the steps of the BRI, despite prominent notices.
If it is enforced, we’ll then see patients in pyjamas puffing away at the gates, and no-one wants that.
I appreciate the cleaner air now in public buildings, but some change in the law is required so that smokers don’t have to huddle in the cold on hospital steps, outside offices and in pub shelters.
Smoking rooms could be provided for the greater comfort of those who need their fix. After all, our lawmakers in the Palace of Westminster have them!
