SIR – Re vote for demolition of Odeon, I vote at elections for Councillors with the hope that they can’t do too much harm, as a lot of their decisions are based on professional advice and usually depend on expert choices.

It was a good date on October 13 for them to have a meaningless council meeting on a decision that had already been taken to demolish the Odeon.

They wasted a free vote in which they could have firmly said one way or another whether or not they supported the decision to demolish.

Instead of that, they simply threw out a motion to reject the committee’s decision to demolish. How brave and weak-kneed that was, but what can we expect with the quality we have elected?

They had the chance for a free vote, no matter how meaningless it was, because the decision had already been taken, and to say what they thought about the decision and show their constituents some honest consideration. It did not happen.
