SIR – As someone living with Type 2 diabetes, I’m writing to ask your readers to support leading health charity Diabetes UK as it launches Get Serious – a national campaign underlining the seriousness of diabetes.

Because half a million people in the UK have Type 2 diabetes and don’t even know it; because three people die every hour from diabetes-related complications; because one person is diagnosed with diabetes every three minutes; because of all of this I’m asking your readers right now to join us.

Get Serious aims to get as many people as possible to sign up and show their commitment to getting serious about diabetes.

We’re also asking supporters to pledge to do something for diabetes. It’s up to you, but it could be anything from organising a fundraising event, walking to work, volunteering or writing to your MP – it all helps us raise the profile of the seriousness of diabetes. Sign up to the campaign by texting SERIOUS to 84383 or visit diabetes.org.uk/getserious.
