SIR – Councillor David Ward (T&A, October 14) put a motion to Council calling on councillors to reject the demolition decision re the Odeon cinema building made by the Regulatory and Appeals Committee. I am sure that most Bradford residents would have wished all our councillors to register a vote in this regard.

Why, therefore, was it necessary for an amendment to be proposed by Councillor Binney and seconded by Councillor Hawkesworth praising that committee for following the correct procedures, and thereby negating any vote on the original motion?

It seems that our Council, right to the end as far as the Odeon is concerned, will do whatever it can to prevent a proper free vote being taken by the full Council on the building’s future.

Come election time I do hope that all these shenanigans will be remembered.
