SIR – Re the article (Bradford Means Business, T&A, October 14), The Future Looks Bright, by Yorkshire Forward deputy chairman Linda Pollard, where she states that the New Victoria/Odeon scheme has been widely accepted by the public.

For her to be sure, she must have spoken to most of the public or held a vote where more than 50 per cent of the public voted for the scheme. I don’t think this has happened.

However, it appears that the majority of the Council agree with her, as they voted to endorse the scheme and even congratulated the committee which decided the fate of the Odeon originally, for their “professional approach”, by ignoring the general public on this issue.

I liken the Council and Linda Pollard to Catharine Douglas (nee Hyde), Duchess of Queensbury (not Queensbury, Bradford) 1770-1777, whose biography opens with the sentence: “Catharine Hyde, Duchess of Queensbury, was a beautiful strong-willed woman who took little notice of the opinion of others”.

If she were alive today, she would be guaranteed a seat on the Council, and Linda Pollard would be on job seeker’s allowance. Having been ousted by her!
