SIR – The latest news on the MPs’ expenses scandal, that prosecution is warranted in the worst cases of abuse, is welcome indeed, but exactly who are these ‘worst’ offenders?
Like many other ordinary citizens, I was astonished at details revealed in a national newspaper of widespread dishonesty at Westminster, which seemed no different to those routinely exposed by the DWP as benefit ‘fraudsters’.
There must be prosecution and full restitution made.
Without very firm action against such miscreants, especially by H M Revenue & Customs, which sadly appears to have a ‘double standard’ whereby MPs and those in the House of Lords are not subject to the same rules as the rest of us, especially OAPs like me, public trust and confidence in our Parliamentary system will be lost for ever, likely to result in many simply not voting at all.
