SIR – May I congratulate everyone involved with the Bradford City Run events, held last Sunday: what a fantastic experience – even for an “old-timer” like me who’s been running for 32 years, since the age of 18, competed in more than 600 races (including all but one of the original Bradford full marathons of the 1980s).

It was great to see so many participants of various cultural backgrounds and, best of all, the many youngsters taking part in their various races and visibly enjoying themselves.

Speaking for the ten-mile event, it was stewarded to perfection and had a start/finish venue to rival anything I have come across.

I’d like to give a special thanks to all spectators and supporters who turned out, plus a special thanks to all at my former club, St Bede’s AC, who not only gave up their time to act as marshals, but gave much encouragement to us competitors.

Last Sunday, not only athletics but Bradford really showed what it could do to promote an active lifestyle and multiculturalism – I felt extra proud to be a Bradfordian!
