SIR – Although some will have experienced difficulties in getting to work during the recent spell of bad weather, most maintained a bulldog spirit and arrived at their place of employment.
People like posties, refuse collectors, shop assistants and especially the likes of 60-year-old delivery worker Diane Brewster who ditched her van because of heavy snow and ice, and set off on foot to ensure patients and customers of the Assura Pharmacy in the Willows Medical Centre in Queensbury got their medicine (T&A, February 11). What a woman!
But we should also be so very, very grateful that our hospitals remained open and the heroic ambulance, fire and police personnel were not thwarted by treacherous conditions, thanks to the tireless efforts of the gritters who kept open principal routes 24/7.
