SIR – On December 4, you reported on the great number of public comments concerning the planning applications to develop the Odeon site.

You state that “it will not be clear how many of these comments are in favour of the development and how many are objections until all the feedback has been collated at the end of the consultation.”

It will be immediately obvious to any reader of the associated documents (on the planning website) relating to the two applications – 08/06391/FUL (Demolition of the Odeon for New Victoria Place) and 08/06392/CAC (Conservation Area Consent for demolition) – that just about every single comment is an objection.

Even though each one is described as a “Comments Letter”, they are all objections, either submitted online or sent as letters, and they speak with one voice.

Certainly, planning officers will need to collate the responses at the end of the consultation, but it must be very clear to them now that finding a comment in favour will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It is not too late for readers to add their voice to the outcry.
