SIR – On Saturday, December 6, my wife and I visited the International Market in Bradford, parking on the top deck of the Arndale Centre.

In Ivegate, we became aware of noise and shouting from the corner with Kirkgate. Two groups of youths had taken exception to each other. Punches were exchanged and soon crowds of youths appeared from nowhere.

This then spilled round on to Kirkgate, towards the elevator into the Arndale centre. There was some panic in the crowds, with people trying to get out of the way, including young children and the elderly. Numerous people rang for the police, who were notable by their absence at that time.

Surely it’s not rocket science to have a visible police presence at this busy time of year? How much longer do we have to tolerate gangs of mindless morons hanging about our street corners intent on mayhem before firm action is taken?

Then there was the fun and games trying to get off the top deck of the Arndale centre car park. It took nearly an hour and a half. So a big thank you to all those motorists who took it upon themselves to flaunt the one-way system, abuse others trying to get out and generally make that Saturday evening one to forget.
