SIR – It is hard to credit that the African kingdom of Lesotho, once under British protection as Basutoland, would see the current third in line to the British throne helping to do manual jobs needed to bring up to date the Thuso Centre, a special needs school that caters for children with physical and mental disabilities in little known Butha Buthe.

Nevertheless Prince Harry is doing just that along with more than 20 colleagues from the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals (T&A, July 9).

We are a proud nation and rightly so when, regardless of their status, so many of our young men pledge to help less-fortunate youngsters in the world.
