SIR – UKIP appear to be blowing a lot of hot air at the moment on various subjects.

The issue of 42 days’ detention on suspected terrorist charges passed through parliament with a nine-vote majority and it would not matter if it was by one vote – that is how our democracy works.

I sometimes wonder what planet these people are on. We are at war with these evil people and unravelling the evil webs they generate cannot be done overnight.

The police and security forces need the time to go through computers, mobile phones etc to ensure the threat is indeed real.

If they say they need 42 days, give them it to make sure our people and shores are safe.

To let them out can only be a mistake that can undo all that has been uncovered.

UKIP and the other do-gooders must be in cloud cuckoo land to say these people’s human rights are being infringed.

What about ours? Don’t they matter? After all, it is us, the people, who are under attack.

The USA have it right with Camp Delta – lock them up regardless, at least you know where they are.
