SIR - On Sunday, September 27, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is holding its annual Hadrian's Wall Discovery Challenge Hike to raises vital funds to help support men, women and children whose hearts need a helping hand.
This year we are looking for over 300 local people to take part and help us raise over £30,000 to support the BHF's life-saving work in the region. The walk is a challenging mix of rural walking and offers spectacular views of the famous landmark.
It follows a ten-mile route from Walltown Crags to Housesteads Fort taking approximately five to six hours and all hikers receive a well-deserved meal after the event.
Physical activity halves the risk of developing coronary heart disease and helps keeps our hearts healthy. Walking is a great form of cardiovascular exercise and the BHF hopes to encourage people to get their hearts pumping to help their own hearts and those of others.
Registration for the Hike is now open. There's still plenty of time to sign up and join the BHF for a great day out. To register and for more information please visit bhf.org.uk/hadrians or call 0800 9176976.
