SIR - Once again we have the yearly ritual of New Year Honours. the hand-out of medals and titles to showbusiness, sport and pop music people.
These people have amassed substantial fortunes from their occupations, provided by the general public, watching or buying their products. Why give them a medal for this?
Some might say they the general public deserve a medal for just watching or listening to these "celebrities"?
Isn't it time to end this out-of-date practice? Surely the only medal of any merit is that which is awarded for bravery and valour?
Anyway the CBE, OBE, MBE must be obsolete as they refer to the British Empire which is now extinct.
