SIR - Former Lord Mayor Mohammed Ajeeb's comments on the current state of affairs in Pakistan (T&A, January 5) made a lot of sense but, I feel, his reasons for the differences between it and its much larger neighbour, India, leave some reason for thought.
He said the British had left some sort of unifying democracy in India and, given that up until 1947 Pakistan and Bangladesh were part of India, I do not understand why they did not inherit the same legacy.
Perhaps we have to face up to the fact that our far-from-perfect democracy cannot work everywhere. Some would say that it doesn't even work here.
