SIR - Councillor Stanley King writes about the faster journey times along the Aire Valley which are possible because of the bus lanes (T&A, December 24).

However, he does not mention the railway service along the same corridor. This provides an environmentally-friendly and even more rapid method of travel along the valley.

Between Keighley and Bradford (a distance of nine miles) there are five intermediate stations, allowing easy access to this mode of transport.

Compared with this, residents in the South of Bradford are very poorly served. Between Bradford and Halifax (a distance of ten miles) there are no intermediate stations!

Reopening a station at Low Moor would help to redress this situation, and help to reduce congestion along Manchester Road.

There have been several articles and letters in support of this reopening, and there were reports of a petition in favour of the reopening (T&A, December 26 and January 2) This will be presented to Bradford Council in due course.

It is a pity so little appears to be happening. I know Metro is interested in this project, but I would have thought that more pressure could be put on other bodies which are not so interested.

Only then will the residents of Low Moor, the Spen Valley and the many employees of all the industrial complexes and units in that area get the greatly-improved transport opportunities which they deserve.
