SIR - I hear a lot of talk about devolution.

Wales getting privileges, Scotland being independent insofar as they seem to be able to do exactly what they want using English money, theoretically British money, while we cannot get anything much.

On top of this, the Irish can vote in our Parliament, but we cannot vote in theirs and Scots can come down here and bag the top jobs in government when they have a government of their own.

I think it is about time Hadrian's Wall be upgraded to longer and higher, with a very secure gate in it, and let the Scots survive on their whisky and salmon market.

We will soon see who produces the most of what it takes to run this Great (?) Britain.
