SIR - I am a part time tutor of cake decoration at Bradford College, soon to be made redundant.
The decision to withdraw funds for adult learning skills is "a bitter blow" for many people.
Over the past 20 years I have taught a great many ladies and gentlemen, of all ages and backgrounds, the art of sugar craft and cake decoration.
Some young people leave school having achieved little but have then attended classes such as mine and learned a skill that would never have been offered at school.
My classes were accredited and students worked towards their basic, intermediate and advanced craft skills certificate.
For some this was the only recognition of their skills they have ever received. The Government have no idea how the knock on effect of their actions will have on these willing and eager students.
I wish they would shadow me for one week and see the devastation their actions have impacted on their lives.
I am preparing to set up some private classes around Bradford and district but this will not help many who cannot afford private tuition and sadly it is those people who need craft skills the most.
It is all very sad, I hope the next Government will re think this policy and give funds towards Adult Education. What ever happened to life long learning?
