SIR - So the Islamists are taking exception to something which we consider as normal in this country, the Knighthood of Salman Rushdie, stating that it is an insult to Islam.

I have no objections to anyone stating an opinion on a subject, whether it is far fetched or not, it is a matter of free speech within Great Britain.

I have no objection to those outside our country giving their views.

But what I do object to is their effrontery to state what we should or should not do. Worse than that, they consider it within their remit to state murder is justified to achieve their ends.

All this because they consider a slight has been perpetrated against Islam, and still consider the inquisition to be in order.

Have they not moved on from the dark ages, when such actions were considered the norm?

How can anyone take them seriously, when they are acting like a mob?
