SIR - So, Salman Rushdie is knighted by Mr Blair and the Queen.

The Foreign Office deems it richly deserved. Is it any wonder that Muslims in this country feel alienated and under threat?

We are working our socks off to build community relations in this city. Then along comes Blair and his cronies making provocative and insensitive gestures.

To add insult to injury, Anne Cryer defends Rushdie and says foreign governments have no right to make comments on what happens in this country. But it's alright for our country to interfere overseas and be involved in illegal occupations.

A sizeable number of Anne Cryer's constituents are Muslims and she repeatedly manages to offend them? Maybe the Muslims of Keighley deserve her because they repeatedly vote for her.

I believe people of no faith should not make comments on issues of blasphemy or religious matters as they are inherently biased and cynical.

This week Bernard Manning and Salman Rushdie have been given accolades by the national media and you don't need to study rocket science to understand the motive.

As for our elected and non-elected representatives, what can one deduce from their comments or the lack of them?
