SIR - Mr Tasker should stop trying to use pensioners to make his political points (T&A, June 13) as his arguments completely fail.

Yes, we get £200 winter fuel allowance, without which many pensioners would have to choose between heating and eating.

Yes, we get free local travel after 9.30am which excludes many essential journeys e.g. hospital appointments. The promised free National Travel is not what it seems. You will not be able to travel long distances, say between Bradford and London.

Yes, there are free TV licences when you reach 75, and he forgot the extra 25p per week pension increase when you reach 80.

Around half the pensioner population have been forced on to means-tested benefit and a further two million eligible do not claim it.

The basic state pension, currently £86 per week for a single person, falls in value, in real terms, from year to year because despite pre-election promises, the Government has failed to increase in line with earnings.

Private pensions have been decimated as a result of the Chancellor "stealing" £5 billion per year from pension funds.

The UK is at the bottom of the EU league for pension provision.

Sorry Mr Tasker, but most pensioners would not agree with you.
