SIR - Can I applaud the editor for the front page (T&A, May 8) where you printed five mugshots of miscreants who must have caused untold misery and heartbreak to hundreds of people.

I would also like to thank the West Yorkshire police, who I believe don't get enough praise from the public, for the difficult and at times dangerous job - well done.

I believe they are finally getting to grips with crime, but more must be done, by them using all the powers they have, the judiciary using its powers, and also the public must be on its toes, and report anything (confidentially) like the T&A's dob in a dealer, benefits cheats and petty crimes.

Some do-gooders and PC people say that CCTV cameras are an invasion of our privacy, but ask yourself this, would we have caught all but one of the Bradford rioters? I think not, carry on with your mugshots T&A, please.

Let's not stop there, let us empower the headmasters, and make them confident to pass on to the teachers that they will back them all the way, with the blessing of the Lord Chancellor, and drum into parents how badly some of them behave outdoors.

Finally, to those who think they are hard' and uncontrollable, set up boot camps, financed by the Government, in inhospitable places around the country.

It's called tough love'.
