SIR – This autumn, sports fans from all over the globe will travel to our country, to witness the extravaganza that is the Rugby Union World Cup.

It will be a tremendous celebration of our game, as well as a spectacle involving some of the bravest and fittest athletes on the planet.

It is therefore with a heavy heart that I have decided to boycott the World Cup Final. No doubt there will be more than a few raised eyebrows in the west stand at the absence of the most successful director of rugby in the Northern hemisphere, but I feel I must take this stand as a matter of principle.

I find it disgraceful that the RFU have appointed Harry Windsor as honorary president.

He dressed as a Nazi. He was involved in an incident in Las Vegas.

There must be a million decent, hard-working people who would be more suited. Sadly, this is another example of the national embarrassment that is the monarchy getting its greasy mitts around an event that should be for the people.
