SIR – Bob Watson (Letters, May 18) seems to think that in the light of the outcome of the General Election, your ‘left wing’ correspondents should show themselves to be good losers and keep quiet rather than resume their attacks on the iniquities of a now wholly Conservative administration.

He justifies this by suggesting that it was a decision by the electorate that brought about the result but even he should feel slightly uneasy about the underlying statistical reality.

Of all those entitled to vote, the Conservative share was only 24 per cent and of those who did so, Cameron’s party received just over a third.
