SIR - Are the powers that be remotely interested in the safety of the public when it comes to speed cameras?

I like to drive and it used to be a pleasant experience but because of the vast array of speed cameras and speed humps it is becoming increasingly stressful and dangerous to negotiate the country’s highways.

We have Gatsos, average speed cameras, variable speed zones and police cameras just about everywhere that you care to go these days.

The average speed cameras situated in what are supposedly road works are very often left in place for months while very little in the way of work is in evidence. Revenue collection?

Probably worse are the variable speed zones where we are asked to fluctuate between 30 and 70mph for no apparent reason in the name of traffic control?

If it went from 70 down to 60 or 40 or whatever, I could possible comprehend the reasoning but to jump up and down at every opportunity smacks of revenue collection.

Add the Gatsos and police cameras to this lot and it’s a total minefield.

When we get closer to home we then have to negotiate the chassis wrecking speed humps that seem to be sprouting on every city street.
