SIR – In replying to the archetypal Working Class Tory, Mrs Robinson, (T&A 30 Mar) I am at a loss to know quite where to start.

Firstly, there are no communists anymore Mrs Robinson, communism is as dated as hippies and the ethos of caring about one another.

Secondly, as one that grew up in social housing, I am frankly aghast that she sees fit to denounce the one political party, that has, as its founding principles, equality and the empowerment of the poorest to help them claim their fair share of the riches they create. Thirdly, when denouncing communism, Mrs. Robinson would do well to remember that were it not for 26 million communists sacrificing their lives to defeat Hitler’s Nazis, she would be airing her Tory views in fluent German.

Finally, the only saving grace of the prospect of five more years of Tory government, is the absolute, certain knowledge that those that vote for them will be trampled underfoot along with the poorest they so obviously despise.
