SIR - The report (T&A, February 24) that there had been a huge drop in the number of motorists fined for using hand-held mobiles whilst driving made disturbing reading.
We all know from travelling around Bradford that this problem is still rife, and this was suitably confirmed by the T&A noting 15 culprits at just one junction in the city over a mere one hour period.
The reported response from West Yorkshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson (pictured) was, it has to be said, somewhat complacent.
What we need is a severe crackdown by the police on this unacceptable and dangerous practice. Beyond that, what is really needed to concentrate minds properly, is a doubling of the current penalty, but preferably a driving ban for all those caught.
