SIR - May I through your letters page thank the driver of the car for failing to give way today at the bridge over the canal on Wagon Lane.

His actions resulted in an accident that occurred because he deliberately ignored the give way sign at that point.

Perhaps he would like to have his eyes tested, or to retake his driving test.

That way he may in future be able to read, know and thereby obey the rules of the road.

He is not alone however. I live above that bridge and have occasion to use that road everyday and it never fails to amaze me how many people simply ignore the instruction to give way to oncoming traffic at that point.

Perhaps they feel that living there they have a right to just drive over the bridge as they wish.

Their excuse may be, as I have actually heard said in the past: “I didn’t see the oncoming traffic.”

Rubbish. I use the road everyday and you can plainly see traffic coming towards Gilstead and Eldwick while travelling in the opposite direction.
