SIR – The Israeli propaganda machine is all pervading, from the White House to the streets of Heaton, from reading your correspondent Rudi Leavor disingenuously stating that the short answer to the Gaza situation is to stop sending rockets (home-made?) or building tunnels (shovel dug?) into Israel (Letters, January 2).

That is precisely what Mr Leavor (and those of like mind) really does not want to happen as the Israeli government would then have to solve the problem that they created in Gaza (a refugee camp where sexagenarians and septuagenarians have lived all their lives as prisoners in their own land) and recognise the inhumanity they have inflicted on another proud sovereign people.

The Israelis suffer the inconvenience of Gaza (in reality how they view the situation), subjugating the Arabs with infinitely superior firepower (seldom reported) for the greater prize.

But assume the rockets stopped and the tunnels became obsolete overnight.

Would the Israeli government redraw the map of the disputed areas, showing Land A and Land B, giving the Palestinians the first choice in which area they would form their state, taking the land that was left for their own?

With a fair division at their own hand, what have they to lose?
