SIR – As your readers are thinking about Christmas gifts for family and friends, they might like to think about one of the best presents ever, the gift of reading.
Beanstalk is a national charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading. We are looking for volunteers who can spare 1.5 hours, two afternoons a week.
Our Reading Helpers read one to one with three children for at least a year to give them a wonderful gift – the love of reading, a gift that keeps on giving. Helpers don’t need previous experience because we provide training; they just need to be reliable, enthusiastic and able to relate well to children.
We have opportunities across Leeds and Bradford. Why not make a New Year resolution to find out more at beanstalkcharity.org or by calling us on 0845 4500 344. All good wishes for the season – and happy reading!
Lorraine Dowson, Recruitment & Training Executive, Beanstalk Yorkshire & North-East
