SIR – Coun Val Slater says (T&A, November 4) that under changes in the planning rules the council could still claim money from the developer as with the S106 system, but the cash would have to fund community improvements of the development sites themselves.
This appears to be an outcome much to be wished.
Such a democratic policy could lead to mutually beneficial co-operation between our city planners and the involved communities, who would receive a fair proportion of the developer’s profit.
This would serve to ameliorate their lifestyle which would otherwise be disadvantaged by the development.
Better by far than the money being lost in the bottomless pit of Central Bradford Regeneration.
