SIR – Councillor Debbie Davies (T&A , October 27) needs to look up the definition of a target. It is something to be aimed for, not a promise. Even Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor doesn’t hit treble 20 every time he aims for it.
Her call for Councillor Berry to resign if his targets aren’t reached is nonsense. Chancellor Osborne has missed his, I assume achievable, targets for reducing the deficit in the past but I doubt she called for his resignation.
I, unlike Councillor Davies, supported the local authority education service by sending my children to and working in local schools. On the other hand she is using the education of other people’s children as a political football and not a real concern for educational standards.
How typical of the Tories to have a spokesman with no experience of modern educational trends and pressures in the public sector!
