SIR – Obvious Labour ‘apparatchiks’ Messrs Holmans and Robertson are again confusing past with prologue.

The West Lothian question did not exist during the time in office of Thatcher or Major, with the root cause of it, ‘devolution’ to the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly, only happening under ‘New’ Labour after the 1997 General Election.

Therefore, the issues involved are only now relevant, with yet further powers being granted to Scotland under the post-independence referendum ‘No’ vote.

Of course, what is at stake are the vested interests of the Labour Party, whose future majority at Westminster might depend on Scottish MPs voting on matters that are of no concern to their constituents.

For the record, I neither belong to nor support any political party and usually exercise my right to abstain from voting in both local and national elections.
