SIR - I was interested to read the extensive coverage of Bradford Council’s new target of “making sure every one of its schools is rated good or outstanding by 2017” (T&A, October 22).
Your readers may be interested to learn that in the glossy publication Education Improvement Strategy 2012-15 one of the strategic priorities is to “ensure all children and young people attend schools that are good or better” with a target by 2015 “to at least achieve the national figure”. Given that only 42% of Bradford’s secondary schools fit this criteria now in late 2014 I doubt they will jump up to the national average of 74% in a matter of just a few months.
We need to be realistic and set achievable goals otherwise they are pointless – will Cllr Berry put his money where his mouth is and resign if his targets are not achieved?
Cllr Debbie Davies (Baildon ward), Conservative Spokesman for Children’s Services, Hartlington Court, Baildon, Shipley
