SIR - Bob Watson in his letter (T&A letters, October 22) alleges that the Labour council is not at the forefront of raising Bradford’s rail needs. Actually the council leader Dave Green is directly in touch with the HS2 Company and also has been appointed to the National Taskforce on Electrification in order to push the Calder Vale line. I sit on the East Coast Mainline Consortium and am part of the One North rail discussions. Both of us take each and every opportunity to fervently raise Bradford’s rail issues. I believe this is beginning to have an effect as more and more of the key transport decision-makers are aware of and talk about Bradford’s need for an electrified Calder Vale line, the re- introduction of the Wortley curve and a rail link to the airport. Finally the traffic issues in Bradford South are recognised, which is why I and Labour colleagues have been determinedly pushing for Low Moor Station.
Cllr Val Slater, Executive Member for Transport , Bradford Council
