SIR – Susan Hinchcliffe says we only get a “tiny minority” being anti-social from the “tens of thousands a week” who come into the city park to take advantage of the council-financed entertainment.

The police say they have seized booze more than 300 times, made 120 arrests and told 60 to leave the area, but significantly have failed to say over what period.

On the presumption of three months this would be five police interventions per day.

Such an involvement and a senior police officer’s insistence they are “taking positive action against anyone who involves themselves in anti-social behaviour” is difficult to reconcile with the experience of the traders that anti-social behaviour is rife and their often tenuous viability is at risk. Something does not ring true.
