SIR – Now with only seven months to go to the next election, would some of your coalition government supporters calmly, sensibly and without passion do some serious thinking about their government’s effectiveness.

They need look no further than George Osborne’s lamentably poor performance. Two massive £40,000 budget tax relief adjustments for the rich, artificially escalated property value increases which make it almost impossible for first time house buyers.

He has overseen a government policy draining billions of pounds from the benefits of our nation’s poorest people and consequently economic purchasing power after specifically promising that his economic plan would not affect the vulnerable.

He has enriched the top one per cent as never before with the 1,000 wealthiest’s incomes doubling in the last four years. Graduates £40,000 in debt who can’t get jobs. He lost Labour’s triple A finance rating.

And for your letter writer Mr Boyes’ information George Osborne is now borrowing more than Mr Brown borrowed simply because not one of his fiscal policies is working and will not be by May 2015.
