SIR – In recent days, two groups of Shipley residents have submitted petitions to Bradford Council complaining about the traffic that blights their neighbourhoods.
The residents of Avondale Road are watching large numbers of speeding cars drive by, as are folk living on Tower Road, Carlton Road and Dallam Road. Incredibly, the latter are also watching in near disbelief as huge HGVs routinely access their roads despite the steep gradients and parked cars.
As usual, these problems are caused by the selfish minority of drivers who are disregarding the new 20mph zones and endangering the rest of us illegally.
The council, though, also has a duty to act to ensure that these roads are properly regulated and traffic-calmed. HGV movements along close-knit residential streets, for example need to be banned completely.
I am grateful to these residents for their campaigns, and trust that the Shipley Area Committee will take action to deal with the traffic menace facing these residents.
Cllr Kevin Warnes, Green, Shipley Ward
