SIR – David Cameron claims he wants to be family friendly in his Government’s policies. It is worth looking at the coalition’s policies and their effect on thousands of families.
There is the bedroom tax, where two children must share a room, the abolition of the educational maintenance allowance, the double penalty of the fine for taking children out of school for holidays in term time thus missing off peak rates and the cut backs to local authority budgets which hit social welfare provision. This week we heard of the lack of funding hitting the free school meals scheme.
Readers could add to the list but then again Cameron says his family “lays at the heart of his life and politics”.
He’s right – for the rich there is no problem with bedrooms, affording school uniform, paying the utility bills, affording a nourishing meal for the children, having holidays, paying the rent or paying for transport.
