SIR - Government health minister Jeremy Hunt is pressing ahead with NHS cuts which could affect many people in poorer and rural areas, causing them to lose their GP service. Quite a number of GP surgeries have already closed due to these cuts. The cuts are to the amount of funding GPs receive from central government.

In the run up to the General Election, the Government is hoping these actions can be carried out ‘under the radar’ as they are more sensitive to public opinion at this time. Mr Hunt’s plan could be changed if enough people object.

The on-line group, 38degrees, has launched a petition which can easily be accessed by googling that name on computer. These sort of petitions have worked in the past when contentious policies have been quietly changed or dropped. If you care about everyone having equal access to a GP in their local area please find the 38degrees site and sign the petition.
