SIR – The cross-rail link between two stations as reported in the T&A (August 14), the opportunity was there to do this long before the new law courts were built.
To build a new station within the new shopping complex on the Westfield site, a councillor stated in the report that viaducts would be needed to do this. There is an 18ft difference between Forster Square and Interchange stations.
Today the lines could cross Cheapside and Hall Ings with level crossings, as Bridge Street is already a bridge. They will say this cannot be done as the incline is too steep.
Many people are now saying the two stations should be linked up. This was also in the report. Those wanting to go northwards – vice-versa, have to alight and get across to the other station. This is not good and needs to be discussed property. Not waiting until 2026 and beyond, it needs doing now.
