SIR - The coverage of the latest secondary schools league tables (T&A, January 11) shows once again the need for Bradford's children to do much better in literacy.
Without this basic skill core' subjects are suffering, plus the chance to reap the cultural benefits of geography, history and foreign languages. An 11 to 16-year-old struggling with their reading is likely to miss out on so much of life including a career.
Reading Matters is a charity working in secondary schools with 11 to 16-year-olds who need extra help with their reading.
We would like to hear from anyone who would be willing to help young people with their reading. We need more volunteers to develop our work further in the Bradford area.
If any T&A readers can spare just two hours a week we can help produce future T&A readers. To find out more, ring (01274) 692219 or email info@readingmatters.org.uk.
